The latest looks for fall and winter are all wrapped up.
The new trend to layered warmth started with last season's
pashmina shawl. This season, the still-popular shawl has been
joined by capes, stoles and ponchos in a variety of styles and
finishes that range from runway dramatic to down-home rustic.
Silky smooth knit and cashmere wraps and ponchos drape
easily over suits, separates and evening wear, for a luxurious
look and feel.
Chunky crochet knit pieces complement casual denim, leather
and corduroy separates best, while mohair and boiled wool
wraps go dressy or casual, depending on how you wear them.
Fur and faux fur stoles look luxurious and dramatic draped
over suits, coats and evening wear.
"A poncho or cape is a fun piece that will instantly update
your fall wardrobe," says Trudy Channer of Cavell's in London,
Ontario.
"They're a great way to gradually add warmth as the days
get cooler, without having to get into coats and jackets until
later in the season."
Opt for a wrap in a similar shade to your outfit for an
understated look or to add drama, choose a wrap in a
contrasting colour.
Plaid or tartan wraps liven up the look of solid separates,
while multicoloured patchwork or open-weave crochet knits lend
a funky finish.
A large pin or brooch adds a decorative look to plain capes
and wraps.
